My sweet granddaughter will be turning one at the end of April. She is my joy! I used to be afraid of having grandchildren – that I wouldn’t be able to do things. That’s all changed. They love you for exactly who you are Parkinson’s or not.

Well, don’t go out in the snow and ice unless it’s unavoidable and use trekking poles with the end that are metal tips.

MemberDecember 29, 2023 at 9:14 pm in reply to: How has Parkinson’s changed the holidays for you? It’s weird – I am in a room with people who love, support, and accept me for who I am, yet sometimes I feel lonely. It is as if I am looking down at a version of myself desperately wanting to find my former self, who is lost.

I would go back to high school. As weird as that sounds, I would act differently towards people that were different. They were just like me. I just didn’t see it that way, but now I know differently. Sometimes I’m the one that’s “different”

My husband and I attended an outdoor concert the other day. We were by far the youngest people in the audience. A gentleman named Ray went up and asked to sing with the band. They agreed as he gingerly tried to walk up the steps when he turned to come down, I got nervous and went up and escorted him down the steps. He then looked at me and said “the next dances is for me,” I said, OK, we danced, and I learned that he had been dancing on rollerskates Until recently, when his wife died three months ago. He is 89 , Going up on stage, singing a cappella, and then dancing with the first lady he can get his hands on when he comes off the stage. He hung up his rollerskates, but he still can bust a move. but I think the biggest laughter came watching my husband as I booted him to the bench and danced with an 89-year-old gentleman. I’m just glad he didn’t ask me to get on rollerskates.

Sorry for the late response, but yes, I have kept in touch with some friends from High School. I married my high school sweetheart, and we live in our hometown. I’m not extremely close to them as life has taken us in different directions but they offer their support to me and my family.
