I have a problem with my toes on my left leg continually clenching and gripping. It often makes my toes very sore. My Neurologist prescribed Amantadine and it seems to help. Side effects are dry mouth, increase in urine get-ups at night and constipation all of which have come along with the PD. I’m 95 and am doing pretty well. I was diagnosed 3…[Read more]

Speech has become my single most debilitating symptom of Parkinson’s disease. I feel like I am falling down hill when I try to conduct conversations with others. I know I am speaking too fast but i cannot seem to slow it down. For this reason I find myself avoiding interacting with others, which is the most distressing part of the disea…[Read more]

Kate replied to the topic Does going barefoot help you with lower back pain? in the forum Parkinson's Disease Symptoms 3 hours, 19 minutes ago
Yes i think that barefoot is better in general for your back, posture, balance. BUT i have recently found something that works fabulously for my chronic lower back pain. It is called a Kailo Pain Patch. It does not contain any medicines and it works by nano technology. To find out more info go on line to GoKailo.com. I have been using mine since…[Read more]

My neurologist scoffs at all this megadosing of B vitamins.
Some say megadose on Thiamine; another say no, Ribiflavin; another says B12 but that oral is useless, it has to be parenteral. The next says Thiamine HCl is a waste of time; it has to be Benfotiamine. Then no one can guess the dose: 200/ 400/800/ 1600/ 3200/ 4000 mg/day ??…no one has…[Read more]

I was stamped with Young Onset of PD when I was 53. By that age I had no idea or even basic awareness about Parkinson’s Disease. We had not seen or heard about anyone having PD amongst my relatives, friends and other acquaintances, not even in past 3-4 generations. In fact PD was not so widely spread in India untill recently. So nobody in my…[Read more]

First of all, I agree with Alan M.
I was a practicing dentist for 41 years. In my last year or two, I started having strange symptoms that I didn’t correlate with Parkinson’s. I was ready to retire, and the timing was very opportune – I sold my practice about a year before the pandemic. After more tests and questions to my physicians, I was fin…[Read more] -

Just to make sure everyone understands, these studies were done on the HEREDITARY form of Parkinson’s, caused by mutations of the LRRK2 gene, which is not a particularly common form of the disease. The previously cited materials on high-dose vitamin B-1 therapy I believe are more applicable to Parkinson’s disease in general. I also believe tha…[Read more]

Hey Toni. thanks for the interesting questions and unique POV. I never even considered trying footwear to solve this painful dilemma.
I’ve always focused mainly on chemical pain relief (i.e. taking paracetamol daily) more than footwear solutions. I live in my mufti slippers. Maybe that’s almost like going barefoot, what do you reckon?
I as…[Read more]

Mary Beth, just allow me to say you are an incredible key master! Not only do you ask very salient “pump primers” but your timing seems impeccable (for my journey, at least)! Keep up the great involvement with PD Forums, OK? And tell your dad for me that he is a very lucky bloke to have such a caring and perceptive daughter. He’s a very lucky m…[Read more]

Hey all:
I was diagnosed at age 65 with no plans of retiring as I had three dependent sons on the spectrum. I’m now 67 and am fully retired. I was a practicing therapist and found it more & more difficult to manage not only my tremors with meds, but some of the less pleasant side effects of PD. This reality made it more and more difficult for m…[Read more]
