Therapeutic Potential of Cannabinoid Compounds in Parkinson’s and LID Analyzed in Review Study

Cannabinoid compounds — particularly cannabidiol (CBD) — show potential to ease symptoms in people with Parkinson’s disease and levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID), according to a review study. Data also suggests that their therapeutic effects likely involve the direct modulation of critical messenger molecules in the brain and indirect reduction…

Impaired Backward Walking Linked to Motor Symptoms, Fear of Falling in Early Parkinson’s, Korean Study Suggests

Backward walking is significantly impaired and associated with motor symptoms and fear of falling in newly diagnosed Parkinson’s patients, a small Korean study suggests. These results point to backward walking parameters as potential biomarkers of Parkinson’s disease progression. The researchers called for future studies investigating the dynamics of backward walking in…

Parkinson’s Gene Therapy Eases Motor Symptoms by Creating New Brain Circuits, Study Shows

An experimental gene therapy called AAV2-GAD, previously shown to improve motor function in Parkinson’s patients, works by creating new circuits in the brain involving motor regions, researchers have discovered. Their findings were published in the study, “Gene therapy reduces Parkinson’s disease symptoms by reorganizing functional brain connectivity,”…

Phase 3 Trial of Accordion Pill in Treating Parkinson’s ‘Off’ Periods Fully Enrolled

Intec Pharma announced the complete enrollment of a Phase 3 clinical trial evaluating the safety and effectiveness of its Accordion Pill Carbidopa/Levodopa (AP-CD/LD) in easing motor fluctuations in people with advanced Parkinson’s disease. The investigative treatment will be compared to immediate release Sinemet, an approved combination of levodopa and carbidopa marketed…

PKG-Watch Helps in Managing Parkinson’s Symptoms and Lowering Patient Costs, Global Kinetics Reports

Global Kinetics recently announced that the use of its wearable device, Personal KinetiGraph (PKG)-Watch, significantly improves the assessment and management of Parkinson’s disease symptoms, while reducing patients’ costs. These results were presented in four scientific posters at the International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders, held Oct. 5-9…
