- The APDA launched a Spanish-language microsite to expand access for Parkinson's patients and their care partners.

- The site provides access to support groups, a symptom tracker app, and a toll-free helpline in Spanish.
The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) has launched a Spanish-language microsite aimed at expanding access to information and support for Spanish-speaking people with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners.
The new resource builds on existing website content on Parkinson’s symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment, while also providing access to educational programs, support resources, and APDA services.  APDA works with Spanish-fluent staff to ensure that its translated materials are linguistically accurate, accessible, and culturally appropriate.
“We are so proud to continue expanding our Spanish-language resources through this robust microsite,” Rosa Peña, APDA’s senior vice president of programs and services, said in a press release. “Everyone deserves the same level of care and support, but when there is a language barrier, accessing the information you need to understand your diagnosis, feel empowered, and make decisions about your treatment plan can be challenging.”
APDA’s Symptom Tracker app available in Spanish
The microsite builds on APDA’s ongoing efforts to reach communities that have historically been “under-resourced, under-studied, and under-engaged.” The organization has been developing Spanish-language educational publications and programs and has made its free APDA Symptom Tracker app available in Spanish. It has also expanded its Spanish-speaking staff and provided support in Spanish through its national helpline.
The new site provides more extensive, up-to-date information for people affected by Parkinson’s, from newly diagnosed patients to those who have lived with the disease for years. Care partners and family members can also find information relevant to supporting someone with Parkinson’s.
It features comprehensive information on Parkinson’s symptoms, diagnosis, and available treatments, as well as guidance on nutrition, exercise, mental health, non-drug therapies, and other ways to manage life with the disease.
In addition, visitors can access educational webinars and videos, downloadable publications, the Symptom Tracker app, and information about APDA programs and support groups. The Spanish resource library currently includes materials on Parkinson’s disease, exercise and wellness, and other aspects of disease management.
APDA’s Spanish-language offerings extend beyond the website. The organization provides Spanish-language support through its toll-free helpline and email, while its online calendar lists virtual programs available in Spanish. Current offerings include Spanish-language online and in-person exercise programs, allowing people to participate regardless of where they live.
APDA also offers several educational materials and support in Simplified Chinese/Mandarin as part of its commitment to equitable access.
