Parkinson’s Foundation Opens 2022 Community Grant Applications
Applications are open for the Parkinson’s Foundation 2022 community grant cycle, with $1 million to be awarded to help fund community-based health, wellness, and education programs supporting those affected by Parkinson’s disease.
Since 1957, the Foundation has invested more than $400 million toward Parkinson’s research and clinical care. More than $7.4 million has been invested in community-based programs since 2011.
With nearly 60,000 new cases of Parkinson’s diagnosed each year in the U.S., this year’s grant cycle will focus on programs to support those who are newly diagnosed, as well as programs that help educate and deliver exercises specifically designed for people with Parkinson’s.
Additionally, grants may be given to programs that address the mental health aspect of Parkinson’s, given that Parkinson’s often is associated with depression and anxiety.
“The Parkinson’s Foundation community grants showcase our continued commitment to make an impact in local Parkinson’s disease communities across the country,” John L. Lehr, president and CEO of the Parkinson’s Foundation, said in a press release.
“Last year, we supported programs in 42 states that provide services for people who are in areas underserved by care programs and resources,” Lehr added.
Numerous communities have benefited from the Foundation’s competitive grants.
“A Parkinson’s Foundation community grant has been key to the expansion of our multidisciplinary program,” said Gemma Moya Gale of Long Island University – Brooklyn, who oversees a local program for social participation and exercise.
“The grant also allowed us to bring expert speakers to our multidisciplinary health fair, which was held virtually on May 6, 2021,” she added.
Applications are limited to nonprofits and other tax-exempt organizations, or healthcare facilities, as outlined in the request for applications.
The community grants range from $10,000 to $25,000 per application, with award recipients being announced in June 2022.
The grant funding period goes from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023, and all funded organizations and institutions must be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion
