Alegeus recently announced it will donate a total of $20,000 to three charities chosen by employees as part of its 2015 holiday giving program. Instead of spending on corporate gifts and holiday cards, Alegeus decided to allow workers to showcase a charity of their preference via a page on the corporate website.

Page visitors were encouraged to vote for one of the three winning nonprofits — with the company donating up to a dollar per vote cast for:

  • The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research ($10,000 donation). The foundation is dedicated to helping develop a cure for Parkinson’s disease within this decade through a funded research agenda, and to advancing treatments for patients with the disease.
  • The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation ($5,000 donation). The CF Foundation’s ultimate goal is also a means to cure cystic fibrosis. It is  funding research toward that end, and toward the development of new therapies to improve the quality of life and promote individualized treatments. It also works  to ensure that patients have access to a specialized and high-quality care.
  • Train a Dog Save a Warrior (TADSAW) ($2,500 donation). TADSAW’s mission is to provide training for medical alert service dogs, as recommended in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines for in-duty soldiers or veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Military Sexual Trauma, (MST), and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). TADSAW has accredited  the training of 495 medical alert service dog teams across the US in the past five and a half years. Currently, over 700 teams are in or anticipating the start of their training.

“Alegeus employees are passionate about giving back to their communities — it’s one of our corporate values — and we were so pleased to give back to these organizations this holiday season,” Steve Auerbach, CEO of Alegeus, said in a press release. “By involving our employees and extended community in choosing causes that were personal, we were able to turn the mundane practice of sending holiday cards into something more fun and engaging — and with a greater purpose. It was very meaningful to hear all of the personal stories and the connections our employees have to these wonderful organizations.”

Alegeus specializes in consumer-directed healthcare solutions, and offers a platform for the administration of healthcare benefit accounts.
