I was diagnosed in early 2020. I fortunately had recently retired and began volunteering as a local deejay. As a new arrival I didn’t have a preset crowd and I did have some family issues I wasn’t aware of.  I know people and have made friends, I also have some conflicts that make more angravating. All in all, my own pd is mostly tolerable even as my mobility diminishes. I isolate myself some but all in all ive made my way using his friends and Parkinson’s volunteers and support groups. I’m not sure how classic my case is. Every PD case is different and we always have to cope with life’s challenges whatever they may be.

Less complaining about recurring issues (accept what I can’t change and move on). Exercise at least once a day. Be grateful for what I do have

I still do deejay’s work (which helps me interact with like minded folks.) My voice remains pretty good. I exercise daily and still stay in touch with friends. I also haven’t lost faith that a cure will be found.

I do have a dark sense of humor but I’m careful to use it judiciously with pd (mainly with close friends and family). I do radio work and never joke about it on air. I never know who’s listening or what their circumstances are. When I was first diagnosed, I was open about it on air after seeing the public ignorance. Over time, I realized that I couldn’t solve that issue. I’ll freely answer questions that are asked but I won’t do much but mention the disease during one show during Parkinson’s Awareness Month

I was formally diagnosed around 4 years ago. I’d intermittently had signs of tremors, slow movement, and falling but was it just age? I was volunteering as a deejay in Santa Fe one morning. The weather was bad so I rushed and fell. I didn’t associate that with Parkinson’s at that point but I got up and rushed again. I fell again and I knew it was more. I checked with my GP who wouldn’t confirm it but I made a neurologist appointment. It was indeed Pd. I’ve increased my exercise a lot since then, taken classes, and started carbidopa/Levadopa. Walking distances (a lifelong passion) has grown more difficult but I do exercise at least 90 minutes a day.

Muhammad Ali. A great boxer and tireless advocate for pwp (especially in the black community) who helped start MJFox’s path. Both key advocates
