I recently watched a video of Dr. Laurie Mischley in which she describes her research which showed that the MIND diet is best for Parkinson’s. Here’s a link to her talk: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LdpfNnnAzKI&feature=youtu.be

Does he have a physical therapist? I saw a webinar where a doctor said everybody with PD should have a physical therapist on their care team. I just saw a physical therapist today for the first time for some foot issues.

And, if you can get a physical therapist who specializes in neurological issues like PD, that would be best. If you’re in an area that offers that.

Lee, I understand what you’re saying about the meds. My doctor gave me a prescription the first time she diagnosed me. I didn’t take it for a year and a half. I didn’t because of concerns about side effects, but now I also realize people’s courses of the disease are so different that there is no reason to assume that everybody needs the same thing (medication) when they are first diagnosed.

Hi! Interesting question. I just started taking collagen powdered in orange juice every morning because my hair has been thinning a bit. I don’t think that’s related to the PD although maybe it is.  A friend suggested the collagen to me, and I asked my hairstylist and he seem to think it could be helpful.  It sounds like a pretty benign thing to take, so it couldn’t hurt to take it. Have you googled it in relation to PD?

Has he tried medical marijuana?  I recently got a medical marijuana card, and I’ve tried it a few times.  It calms the nervous system and I didn’t think about my PD or symptoms.  There are more “delivery systems” available with medical marijuana, such as tinctures, patches, etc. in addition to all the standards.  I tried seltzer water with 5mg cannabinoids/can, and I didn’t even drink the whole can (I poured some in a wine glass).  I probably had 2.5-3mg and it relaxed me without feeling particularly high.  Your dad may want to try that.
