  • Who inspires you? And where do you find your inspiration?

Posted by Mary Beth Skylis on July 8, 2024 at 1:53 pm

Throughout my life, I’ve found so much inspiration in books. I’ve modeled my life and career choices after some characters I’ve read about. They motivate me and encourage me even when I’m feeling down on myself. And I think that having people to admire helps me to keep going.

Who inspires you? How do they impact your life? Where do you find your inspiration?

I don’t find inspiration in a specific character as a whole, I might take a trait from one person in my life a few from another, then I put my own twisty personality on those traits and that’s literally how I became who I am now. A person who looks at something, if I like it, then I absorb it and include it in my life

Hey Mary-Beth! Aside from you and your father’s journey, which inspires me al lot, and MJ Fox’s gargantuan achievements (which I stand in utter awe of), I’m reminded of a wee lassie who resides in Scotland more recently. I don’t know whether to mention her actual name, for fear she may take some offence. Let’s just say she is known most by the moniker “Wheeled Piper” (or WP for short).

I was first acquainted with her videos’ online (Fb) some three years ago, and discovered she has struggled most her youth with immense pain brought about by unbearable physical ailments (much like many PD sufferers). I think she may even have spina bifida, as she has become wheelchair bound more recently, accompanied by frequent difficult surgeries…

What blows my mind is her dedication and determination to “learn to be noticed” by striving to learn to play one of the most difficult instruments in the world — the Great Highland bagpipes! I’ve followed her musical successes as a Celtic troubadour for some time now. All her tutors have remarked just how amazing her abilities to master such a challenging feat (I know, as I’m still trying to learn to play the Scottish small pipes).

I only wish I had her aspirational, driven abilities. She remains my most favorite “hero”. I wish I knew how to say to her how much her journey has helped me to remain focused.

    Slainte to her, I say…

My mother is my biggest inspiration. No matter how hard it is for her, she always finds time to take care of herself, spend time with her family and sports. Recently, we started going for walks together, and over time, we started walking more. Thanks to this https://betterme.world/articles/walking-2-miles-a-day/, I also learned how great it is to lose weight through such physical activity. Now walks are not only enjoyable but also very useful
