Years ago my husband started acting out his dreams usually violently. He had a sleep test and they found out he had REM Sleep Behavior Disorder. The doctor put him on Clonazapan. He has been on it for years. He takes a 1mg every night at bedtime. It has been a great drug for him. He is never groggy or tired the next day. Â The doctor back then told him that he may possibly get PD some day. The sleep behavior disorder is a possible indicator of future PD. He was diagnosed with PD a year ago. I have also taken Clonazapan for anxiety. It has been a great drug for us.

He doesn’t research anything about it. I do every day. I want to be informed any way I can. There is a lot of encouraging articles about people that are fighting it and making each day count. That encourages me. The articles about people having such difficult times are hard to read. Sometimes I have to back off reading those for awhile. But no one with PD know what is ahead. Things can change so fast. My prayers are with everyone who is struggling with this disease.

He takes his meds  four times a day. 6 am. , 10 am. , 2pm. , and 6pm. His dosage is the same amount each time. It consists of both regular and extended release C/L. He still has a problem getting going after the 6am. dose. Usually feeling better by 9 am.

MemberAugust 3, 2022 at 10:20 am in reply to: How do you manage your Parkinson’s at work?My husband is still working. He is 71 and is thinking about retiring at the end of the year. PD doesn’t interfere with his work at this time. But being 71 and having this makes it harder. He wants to do some other type work after he retires that is not so demanding. With PD you don’t know how things will be in a given amount of time.

My husband started having dreams that he acted out 10 or more years ago. He did a sleep study and was diagnosed with REM sleep disorder. The doctor put him on Klonopin 1mg  before bedtime. He has been on it all theses years. He has done so well on this. Sleeps well. The klonopin doesn’t make him feel drowsy in the morning. He is up and ready to go. He was diagnosed with PD October 2021 but we know he has had symptoms for several years.

MemberMay 12, 2022 at 6:03 pm in reply to: Care Partners/Givers Interested in Support GroupMy husband was diagnosed with PD last October. He had symptoms about six months before, but we didn’t pursue it. He has the REM Sleep behavior disorder for years which we knew thatPD was probably in his future. He is doing quite well on his medication now and is still working. As with PD we don’t know what the future holds. By the way, for those who have trouble with the REM sleep behavior. My husband has taken Klonopin. He sleeps well and doesn’t act out his dreams.

My husband was diagnosed with PD last November. He was started C/L. It immediately improved his symptoms. He still continued to have resting tremors in his hands. He also has active tremors. He has twitching or flinching in his arms ever so often. The doctor increased his C/L but it hasn’t improved the tremors much. Has anyone been treated with something else for the resting and active tremors?
