Me too. I have been craving sweets and baked goods. Seems to be correlated with other PD symptoms.

I read craving of sweets is due to the lack of dopamine. I’m on 25-100 twice during the day and 50-200 before bed, it doesn’t help at all with cravings.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for your comments.
This is an interesting topic that I hadn’t thought about before. My dad struggled with weight loss before DBS. I wonder if this could have to do with certain food types. Have ou talked to your physician about this to see if you could find a root cause?

I have a neurologist appt in the beginning of January, that is one of many topics to talk about.

In the seven years since my diagnosis I have been pretty steady +/- 5 pounds. When I get the opportunity to engage in my full exercise program (pre-COVID) I drop. When I over-indulge in eating (Christmas) I rise. I don’t feel Parkinson’s has influenced my metabolism.

I struggled with weight gain for a while too, and it can be frustrating when you’re doing all the right things but still not seeing the results you want. Have you considered talking to your doctor about your options? Sometimes there are medical reasons that can make it harder to gain or lose weight.

I’ve heard some people have success with steroids for muscle gain, but it’s important to approach it with caution and under medical supervision. Maybe check out https://goliathsteroids.com/ for more info, but definitely consult a professional first! Good luck on your journey!

Hi everyone,
One of the reasons for the delay in my diagnosis was the fact that each neurologist I saw said that as I didn’t appear to have all the right symptoms and that I was overweight and struggled to lose any, it was unlikely I had Parkinson’s, and it took quite a few years to find a neurologist who finally diagnosed me in 2019. I continue to fight with putting on weight and yes find it hard not to binge on sweet things. I exercise for around 30 minutes a day, including weight training, and water therapy. I have sort advice from dieticians and I try to eat a healthy low fat diet but as yet nothing seems to work, so I’m trialling meal replacements to see if they have any effect. My doctor has explained that part of the answer may lie in the fact that I am post menopausal and that a lot of it may be due to my genes. It’s been interesting to find another person bringing up this topic as I’ve not found it discussed or researched in relation to Parkinson’s anywhere else, so thanks for that.

I did not notice this discussion in 2022, 2023 or until now in June of 2024. But I find that when I have a need to know, I come to this platform and find there is a discussion happening!
Have gained 15 pounds in the last few months and couldn’t figure our why, but now I see that the cause is probably PD, with which I was diagnosed in late 2021. I have been trying to diet for a few weeks now, and my weight is going down, finally.
I have never had such a hard time with my weight before. It seemed to happen overnight! One week I could wear my clothes; the next week nothing fit. It was really strange!

Weight gain is a complicated issue in Parkinsons.U have to consider that dysautonomia has a correlation which means that the gut and all the organs are in slow motion with the disease,so indigestion, reflux and other stomach issues are presented-u all know constipation.Nevertheless there is another important issue which is malfunction of certain brain grey cells that lead to overeating or other aberration issues like gambling or overspending. If u want to eat more think hard about that. Its the disease, like binge eating.Thank u and since its summer and high temps, plz dont eat.A professor of mine once said, eat in a small plate like your cat’s.

My doctor suggested buying wegovy online https://www.canadapharmacy.com/products/wegovy to improve my chances of success in weight loss. Using it under medical guidance, along with a balanced diet and exercise, could be key to achieving sustainable results and better overall health.

I think everyone should understand that there is a problem with weight loss as well as a problem with weight gain. To do this, you need to be well aware of how best to behave in these matters. For me, the most important thing is to first learn what to do before stuffing yourself with unnecessary foods or vitamins. I can advise you to read this information https://betterme.world/articles/4000-calories-a-day/, from here I actually know everything I need to do in such situations.
