I tried samples of it a couple of year ago and it induced severe coughing spells which progressed to a bout of bronchitis. I have never smoked and don’t have asthma or COPD, but for some reason am sensitive to it. It appears to work well for some Parkies. I was disappointed I couldn’t tolerate it.

I am 68 y/o male with PD x 8 years+. I have urinary urgency and incomplete emptying partly due to PD, partly due to enlarged prostate. No accidents as yet, but had a couple of close calls. My urologist and neurologist feel I have a combination of the prostatic obstruction coupled with a neurogenic bladder from my PD. My urologist prescribed Myrbetriq, which is new and very expensive and would have cost $240 a month(30 tablets). It relaxes the bladder muscle and theoretically reduces the urgency. I saw a previous post from someone who was prescribed the same and could not afford it. My solution was to order it from DiscountCanadaDrugs.com based in Winnipeg, Canada. I bought 100 tablets for $53 including shipping. It seems to work as well as the samples my urologist gave me. It did not totally solve the problem, but I will have prostate surgery in June to provide more relief. You need to send a scan of a hard copy Rx to the Canadian pharmacy.

I tried samples of this a couple of  years ago. The inhaled powder irritated my bronchial passages and caused intense coughing, which led to development of a bout of acute bronchitis which I could not clear without antibiotics. It may work for some patients, but did not work for me.

I tried calling the maker, Acorda Therapeutics, about whether they have programs to make Inbrija available free or at discount to patients who have trouble affording it, but I was unable to get through their phone tree and speak to someone or get a reply to a message I left.

However, there is another resource that can help. Alliance Walgreens Pharmacy has a program to make Inbrija available at discount or even free, depending on your income. Their phone # is (412) 413-8162. I called them recently and confirmed they do have it available.

    Good luck!

The ePocrates medication app warns about caution with oxybutynin in PD due to constipation and other complications, such as worsening of glaucoma, which is more common in the elderly population.  Again, the Myrbetriq from DiscountDrugsCanada.com is about $.53 per pill and seems to work fine.

Talk to the urologist about aquablation, a newer technique for removal of part of the prostate via the urethra. Much better control and less bleeding than older TURP techniques.

My prostate was 3-4x normal size and seriously obstructing urine flow. My urologist used a newer technique called aquablation which uses a computer mapped and guided water jet to precisely carve out just the right amount of prostate tissue and leave enough sphincter intact to prevent incontinence. I had it done in early June, it was done through the urethra under general anesthesia, I was in the hospital overnight, in part because of the PD, got the catheter out before discharge, recovered well and can urinate well now. Urinary urgency subsiding. I continue on Myrbetriq.
