- Short Bio
I was diagnosed in September, 2004, having had some symptoms for a few years: slowness, rigidity, fatigue, tremors. As it progressively worsened, I considered, and ultimately decided upon, DBS surgery in 2015. Since that time, I have been able to reduce the amount of meds necessary (from 5 times per day to 3 times per day) and I no longer experience the wearing off periods I was increasingly subject to prior to the surgery. I have taken up Rock Steady Boxing as my “go to’ exercise program and have been blessed with a support system beginning with my husband, family, friends (those without PD and those with PD) and professionals (Neurologist, Internist, Physical and Occupational therapists, RSB coaches, Social Workers). I find these connections with caring groups of people to be as much of a deterrent to the progression of this disease as the surgery and medications.
