I am a former colligate swimmer. (UCSB 1980) I have been eating Vegan since 2020 and think that it has helped slow the progression. Also, I try to exercise (swimming) at a high heart rate interval format 1 to 3 times a week. In between, I keep active in the garden and lift weights at the gym.
