Barbara replied to the topic Do you like to box? in the forum Parkinson's Disease and exercise 3 days, 5 hours ago
Rock Steady Boxing equals Pedaling for Parkinson’s in effectiveness. The program, while exhausting, is the best all-body exercise. When I started I could not fasten my bra or lift my arm over my head. Now, I not only pedal and box, I have enough flexibility to to floor and chair Yoga. Observe a class! You may think (as I did) .. “I can’t do that!…[Read more]

Melissa. I enjoyed reading your story. It was written with compassion and determination. My story appeared on day 1 of the 30 day challenge. I was surprised and honored to think that others might gain courage and/or insight from my story. I was 75 when I got my diagnosis; can only imagine how much courage it takes for you to face the future. I…[Read more]

Indications: more visible tremors and balance issues that I felt were difficult to handle. Believe I started with 3 pills daily. 18 mos was my time: have no idea about others. It takes a while to compile results an believe study continues. Again, best wishes for slow progression.

Diagnosed in 2014, my neurologist did not rush to C/L, instead enrolled me in research testing … “what length of time a newly diagnosed patient can go before requiring medication”. I made it to 18 months before both of us agreed it was time. To answer your question, YES C/L does relieve tremor. As for the other 100 or so symptoms, they are so in…[Read more]

Barbara replied to the topic How will you be celebrating Parkinson's Awareness Month? in the forum Parkinson’s Disease Awareness and Advocacy 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Thought one person could not really do much. I was wrong. Today I went to my library to ask about obtaining Parkinson’s Diva, a book I read about in the Univ of Rochester Clinical Research Center video, specifically made for 2022 Parkinson’s Awareness Month/Day. I was referred to the Adult Services section of the library where a knowledgeable Lib…[Read more]

Barbara replied to the topic Have you participated in any clinical studies or trials? in the forum Diagnosis Information and General Questions 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Yes, a few, in-person and thru technology. My first neurologist (at a teaching hospital in 2014) gave me my diagnosis and asked if I would like to participate in research. Yes! Of course. I willingly participated in any research that was “looking for a cure”. That was a 3-year trial to ascertain how long a new patient could go without taking CD/…[Read more]

Barbara replied to the topic Do you think your stress levels have gotten worse over time? in the forum Parkinson's Disease Symptoms 6 months ago
Yes! I was diagnosed in 2014, age 75. Prior to PD I was able to multitask no matter the task. In the past few years, my patience has lessened while stress has increased. I had been thinking it is my age however, I’ve had discussions with my children and they agree that my stress level explodes in proportion to the number of people involved, the a…[Read more]

Barbara replied to the topic What do you think of the term 'Parkie'? in the forum Parkinson’s Disease Awareness and Advocacy 8 months, 4 weeks ago
When I hear that “quip”, I feel like Parkinson’s has been turned into a joke, something “cutesy “ to laugh about. It makes me uncomfortable. There are many things to laugh about in this world, just not Parkinson’s. FYI: I am a positive, active PD woman who greets each day with a smile, doing what I can for the greater good.
