Barbara replied to the topic Have you been able to develop a Parkinson’s community for yourself? If so, how? in the forum A Forum for Parkinson's Disease Caregivers 2 weeks, 5 days ago

Started by wishing to take a PD book from my library. Their offerings were 3 and old. Spoke with Adult Services; during 2022-23, I suggested along with a librarian, we ordered about 20 pertinent/timely books which they allowed me to read first. Meanwhile, I arranged for a display table for Parkinson’s Awareness Month, April, 2023 which was v…[Read more]

Barbara replied to the topic Can exercise delay Parkinson's progression? in the forum Parkinson's Disease and exercise 3 months, 1 week ago

Yes, yes, and YES!  There is a collaborative between dopamine and exercise. I recently did my own experiment re same. Late last year, I was taking 1.5 Sinemet every 3 hours, alarms set. I took it without thinking, until one day I noticed my left hand wasn’t bouncing, my left leg was not moving. I skipped that dose and began noticing. My ex…[Read more]

Yes, it does help for sleep. Unfortunately, it makes me a zombie during the day. Thanks for your comment.

Are you taking Clonazapan? For which symptom? Recently I have heard negative comments in respect to taking it for anxiety? All comments appreciated.

Barbara replied to the topic Have you found helpful books/resources to assist caregivers? in the forum Using our forums 10 months, 2 weeks ago

One book that will help everyone dealing with any type of illness, not just Parkinson’s, is “The Wounded Storyteller”. 8 years diagnosed, it helped me feel better about my acceptance/rationalization. One more: Parkinson’s Diva, a woman’s POV, written by a woman, a neurologist who then was diagnosed with PD,. Excellent.

Barbara replied to the topic Did you celebrate Parkinson's awareness month? in the forum Parkinson’s Disease Awareness and Advocacy 12 months ago

I checked with my library and discovered the few books they had shelved under Parkinson’s were either  out-of-date or not really pertinent, so I made an appointment with the person responsible for the PD section. I had a list of suggestions including Parkinson’s Diva, book written by a PD neurologist who then was diagnosed with Parkinson’s; she wr…[Read more]

Barbara replied to the topic Do you like to box? in the forum Parkinson's Disease and exercise 1 year ago

Rock Steady Boxing equals Pedaling for Parkinson’s in effectiveness. The program, while exhausting, is the best all-body exercise. When I started I could not fasten my bra or lift my arm over my head. Now, I not only pedal and box, I have enough flexibility to to floor and chair Yoga. Observe a class! You may think (as I did) .. “I can’t do that!…[Read more]
