Jean and Ally, Thank you for welcoming me to the forum. I learned about the forum from the Parkinson’s News Today website. After seeing 3 neurologists for 2 years, I finally found a neurologist at UT Southwestern in Dallas who performed a DaTscan and diagnosed me with Bradykinesia with Slight Jaw Tremor. My family has no history of neurological problems, and I do not know anyone who has been diagnosed with Bradykinesia. My husband and I have a friend who has Parkinson’s. Since he has had successful Deep Brain Stimulation, his tremors have stopped. Now he and I have similar symptoms–gait problems and voice problems. I do physical therapy at home after working with a physical therapist and athletic trainer. After working with a speech therapist for several months, I now do speech therapy exercises at home every day. If I don’t, I can barely speak by the end of the day. One neurologist along the way suggested that I use a cane for walking. My athletic trainer worked with me to the point that I only need to use the cane when we are outdoors. I began noticing a different odor to my body a few weeks ago, but my husband says he can’t tell any difference. Any information anyone can give to me would be appreciated. One question I particularly am interested in learning opinions on is, Does Bradykinesia always lead to Parkinson’s? My neurologist at UT Southwestern has said she cannot diagnose me with Parkinson’s yet.
