I would like to share my story for Parkinson’s Awareness month:
I am a certified exercise instructor with Power for Parkinson’s, a non-profit in Austin Tx that provides free exercise, dance and singing classes to anyone with PD and their caregiver regardless of mobility or fitness level. I want to share our story because I believe many can be helped by learning about us.

Parkinson’s disease doesn’t just affect the patients, it affects their family too. Our co-founders, Susan Stahl and Nina Mosier, have personally seen their families go through the pain. They started Power for Parkinson’s in 2013 in honor and memory of their fathers who had Parkinson’s. They recognized the importance of exercise and social interaction and that services targeting these needs were sorely lacking. Since that time our program has expanded due to this great need.
What makes P.F.P. different is our unique symptom directed approach. All classes address common symptoms of PD. All classes are free. All classes are inclusive. We welcome people who exhibit mild symptoms to those who are more effected, by presenting alternatives or modifications to include and challenge all participants. Research has shown that by addressing some of these symptoms through exercise one can delay or possibly reverse some of these symptoms.
We are currently providing 12 classes weekly in 9 different locations welcoming over 400 participants as well as many hundreds more globally through use of our free video library and live streamed classes.
I hope those of you in this forum will explore and share our video library or tune into to our live stream classes. In my 6 years with this program I have witnessed firsthand the benefit these classes have on people struggling with PD.
