Hi everyone. I received my Vyalev pump, literature, syringes, cannulas etc. on Wednesday and drove up to my MDS’s office in LA yesterday. There was a rep from Abbvie there who watched me go through the process of prepping the pump and syringe, cleaning the infusion site and inserting the cannula.
It didn’t hurt at all, and as of this morning it is fine. I started feeling better about 20 minutes after my loading dose began, and this morning, I feel like I can do most anything I could do before. Most importantly, I’ve had virtually no tremors, whereas prior to yesterday, I’d been having 3+ hours of off time per day.
The rep said that, for patients 63 and under with at least 2.5 hours of off time per day, the first two years of the pump and medication is free or until my insurance company starts covering it if before the end of the 2 years. Regarding Medicare, she indicated that if you have supplemental insurance, you will probably be covered, as Abbvie will charge the supplemental.
Let me know if I left something out or you have any questions.
