Sandy replied to the topic How do you store your medication? in the forum Living With Parkinson's Disease 4 months, 2 weeks ago

We have a weekly pill organizer, three times a day, 7 days a week compartment. I labeled the “time” on each compartment so he knows which compartment to take. He keeps the weekly container on the kitchen table. This allows me to see which one he missed or not. Since I work full-time, I purchased a large, impaired vision clock to remind him the…[Read more]

Sandy replied to the topic Will you take the Covid-19 booster when it's available? in the forum Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Parkinson’s 7 months, 2 weeks ago

Yes, my husband went for the booster without any hesitation!

Sandy replied to the topic Have your urinary patterns changed? in the forum Parkinson's Disease Symptoms 8 months, 3 weeks ago

Yes, my husband has an overactive bladder. Twice now, he thought it may be prostate related but it’s not. Over the years, we learned to fly and travel with Depends since you never now when the urge will hit! He also just started to cut back or stopped drinking any liquid after 7pm to help from having to get up more than twice during the night.

    Corrie,

Thank you for listening. I know you heard me and totally understand where I am coming from. It is almost a year since I had lost to my mother with Parkinson at 95, right before Thanksgiving. Her Parkinson fight was more on the old age mobility with getting around. Her mind was sharp and she was a good listener, like you. I miss talking to…[Read more]

Sandy replied to the topic Do you still drive? in the forum Living With Parkinson's Disease 9 months ago

My husband stopped driving his 5 speed manual July 2021, four years after being diagnoses. It wasn’t the driving  to the nearby grocery store that had him stop. It was with all the new changes with construction in the area. New roads, buildings, trying to keep his where about surroundings that made it hard with a mild case of Dementia. Lots of…[Read more]

Sandy replied to the topic How long have you known you have Parkinson's? in the forum Living With Parkinson's Disease 9 months, 1 week ago

We were in denial when my husband got his first diagnosis of Parkinson’s in 2016. After learning in the past 5 years, I see some of the symptoms may have started back in 2010. We should have been more aware of Parkinson signs since his father and aunt passed with Parkinson being around 50 years old. My in-laws don’t talk about it. My husband is 70.

My husband is a introvert and I am the extrovert. He prefers to stay home unless he is with me. Sadly, he does not have any hobbies or interests in doing anything the past two years. I think once COVID and the mask thing is over, I can see him enjoying going to estate sale to find antique items to tinker with to repair. Otherwise, TV is his new friend.

Sandy replied to the topic How long does it take to find the right medication balance? in the forum Parkinson's Disease Medications 10 months ago

Troy – Thank you! I’m going to discuss about the every 4 hours, 4 x a day with Daryl’s doctor since I notice the 6 hours is wearing off a couple hours before it’s time to take the next one. We’re at 25/100 mg pills. As for Daryl opinion, he doesn’t know. He is more concern with his memory at this time so we have added Donepezil, to improve his…[Read more]

It is a really good  thing to do when you have Parkinson. My Mother did boxing for about 2 years before she became wheelchair bound. My husband has no interests in boxing and I tried to get his brother to take him and box with him. I also think we’re too late for this form of exercise to fight Parkinson.

Totally agree with the person who said that Parkinson’s is a thief taking away everything bit by bit. My husband is 70 today and has known about Parkinson for 5 years. Looking back, it has been longer. His father died of Parkinson when he was 50 years old. Slowly, I’m watching how my husband struggles with his walks, day by day it is getting t…[Read more]

Troy –  I’m curious how did you figured to take Carbidopa/Levodopa 4  x a day , assuming you are taking it every 4 hours is the right amount. My husband took Carbidopa/Levodopa 3 x a day, every 4 hours and it wasn’t enough. We decided to switch to every 6 hours with Carbidopa/Levodopa. I can tell the Carbidopa/Levodopa starts to decline after 4 h…[Read more]

My husband of 38 years has been diagnosed with Parkinson 5 years ago and I now know, it has been longer than that since his Aunt pointed out some clues to me on one of our family trips. Since then, he was denoised with Parkinson.  We do a big trip once a year. like most people. Just 3 weeks ago in 2021, we took another family trip to the National…[Read more]
