Phil Gattis replied to the topic Are you able to sleep through the night? in the forum Parkinson's Disease Symptoms 1 week, 5 days ago
at bedtime, I take 10mg Melatonin
and in addition, a cup of valerian tea.
I brew an additional cup to take cold if/when I awake in the night to help me get back to sleep.
This is almost a failsafe regimen for me.

Phil Gattis replied to the topic Turmeric in the forum Diagnosis Information and General Questions 1 year ago
I’ve been taking Turmeric for several years now. It very nicely replaced an NSAID in controlling pain/inflammation. Long-term NSAID use has its danger of side effects, so that in itself makes it worth it. However, a cure for Parkinson’s it is not.

This study was conducted by/at University of Florida. Can anyone find out more about it? Specifically, is there any commercial product that can introduce the ‘good’ gut bacteria?

I can’t see how to start a new forum. I think this potential breakthrough deserves one, although there doesn’t seem to be enough information to research it further.

What helped us is that, from early on, we realized that it isn’t my diagnosis, but *our* diagnosis, and we are a team fighting this thing called Parkinson’s. She is with me at every appointment. We discuss every change in medication and routine.
For example, I started getting up 10 minutes earlier in order to facilitate 15 minutes of P…[Read more]

Phil Gattis replied to the topic What have you learned about Parkinson's since the diagnosis? in the forum Diagnosis Information and General Questions 1 year, 5 months ago
2nd most important treatment is humor. my current favorite one-liner: “I’m having short-term memory loss; I’ll talk to you next week.”
most important treatment: exercise
However, C/L initially helped reduce symptoms significantly, so I hesitate to drop Rx treatment, but I rank it in 3rd place.

Mike Scott:
As to causes, there are 2 contenders. PD is presumptive for the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune water pollution scandal, for which I’m perfectly qualified. Also, since that exposure, I sprayed many types of paint and coatings with bad organic solvents, for which I didn’t use sufficient protection. Camp Lejeune started PD, and the ot…[Read more]

Mike Scott:
I just had my 70th birthday last Sunday. 15 months diagnosed. I exercised regularly for years, long before diagnosis. Since diagnosis, it’s become much more important for me.

Mine is similar to others’, especially David Blacker:
3 times/week mixing up:
- 20 min HIIT cardio
- 15 min resistance: sit-ups, push-ups, therapy band
- 20 min power moves PWR!Moves
- 10 min stretches
Then I try to do a 4th time each week boxing with a heavy and a speed bag. I’m really not good at the speed bag.
