My very smart chiropractor, Duncan McCollum told me that over time, the toxins we are exposed to build up in our bodies and that process compromises our immune systems. We can even receive toxins via umbilical blood in vitro from our mothers. We each have varying abilities to handle the toxins based on amounts and genetic predispositions. For some of us unlucky types the toxins eventually overwhelm our bodies and especially our brains where the blood-brain barrier can let toxins in where they do damage. Things we barely think about like the mercury fillings in our teeth and the untold other things like petrochemicals, pesticides, microplastics etc can accumulate. Eventually these things cause the damage that we here know as Parkinson’s disease. Different toxins with similar results. Could even be caused by exposure to microwave oven energy or RF radiation or paint chemicals or the granddaddy of them all….heavy metals. When my Neurologist asked me what kinds of environmental poisons I have been exposed to in my lifetime, I had to tell him pretty much all of them. It is a bit late now foe me to try to detoxify my body but perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to try under the guidance of a professional. Sometimes when people ask me what causes Parkinson’s disease, I look at them quite seriously and say that it comes from one too many violations of the 5 second rule of dropped food.

I use it when I accidentally call someone with my cellphone due to lack of good motor control with my fingers. I don’t like the term “butt dial”, so when folks call me back to see why I dialed them I say “oh sorry….that was a “parkie dial”!

For insomnia I recommend learning the practice of Transcendental Meditation. One typically would not do it before bed as it can act as a stimulant. Ideally you would meditate twice a day ( mid morning and mid afternoon ). It can calm your dreams and…if you have lost sleep it compensates for it like taking a very efficient Power Nap. Not everyone can learn it, but I like to say that if I can learn it, anyone can. Not to be confused with “contemplation”, it’s a technique used to quiet the mind and generate alpha waves. Any type of meditation would be helpful.

My Neurologist prescribed it to me about a year and a half ago. Although i have no cognitive issues, another patient with FOG symptoms had positive results using it. After using it for a few months, I did not see any discernible improvement in my freezing of gait AND the skin on my forehead developed a terrible rash and became quite dry. A few days after i stopped taking it my rash cleared up. Just to be sure, I tried it again a couple months later with the same results.

Since my diagnosis about 3 years ago I have experienced extreme urgency to urinate. My special PD “gift” is freezing of gait, which of course is exacerbated when having to pee. My current solution is to keep “pee jars” strategically placed around my house, which can get awkward when others are present. Can’t see myself doing a catheter thing yet, and more drugs isn’t a favorite choice as I am assuming that the carb/lev is what gave me the condition to begin with. Anyone else have a similar “solution” ( pun intended )

My insurance has a program called “Silver Sneakers” that offers free gym memberships at participating facilities. Unfortunately for me the closest participating gym to me is over 20 miles away.

Have been suffering from lower back pain to the point where I went to the Stanford Spine clinic. Surprisingly, I was told that I had the spine of a man 26 years younger than myself. I had been going to weekly PT appointments and guessed that perhaps the PT was the cause of my pain. Up until I was diagnosed in September 2022 I had been very active in heavy weightlifting and bicycling 20 miles 3 or 4 times a week.

Prior to going to Stanford I had been getting trigger point injections in my back every two weeks along with a prescription for Meloxicam and pregabalin. The drugs certainly helped the pain but sometimes made me tired and/or dizzy.

The Stanford Clinician told me that it was her opinion that my back pain was caused by my “Parkinson’s posture” and the fact that I have a long torso didn’t help. She recommended more PT and yoga.

I have some of the things others have listed. What I have and use that hasn’t been mentioned is a vibration platform that I picked up on Amazon. I stand on it while I do exercises including weights, stretching cords, squats, and boxing movements with resistance cords anchored to a doorframe behind me. The vibration platform has various speeds that help me not get used to the same shake rate. It’s nice if you don’t feel like doing anything, as once you get on it for a few minutes it gets the blood moving and then you usually keep going with the workout

  • Thank you for sharing your experience. With a few minor variations, I grew up under the same circumstances In Wisconsin. And then I worked for a railroad on the west coast where every time a commuter train whizzed by it kicked up a cloud of herbicide infested air of which the contents I was unaware of. Little did we know.

  • Starting to wonder if watching hours of Television as a youngster is a contributing factor of my Parkinson’s. The old cathode Ray picture tubes were notorious for emitting X-rays. Has any research entity looked into this possibility? Back in the 80s I was enrolled in a class being taught by a former engineer for Raytheon Corporation and he told us about the dangerous X-rays that televisions gave off and that the closer a viewer sat to the set, the more damage that could occur to a viewer’s brain.

    Hi ally,

That is a tough question as I can’t actually recall the source. Then around the same time I heard about the yet to materialize “magic vibrating gloves” devised by Dr. Peter Tass at Stanford. The story told was that sometime way in the past a French neurologist who was famous enough that folks would travel great distances in bumpy jostling conveyances of the era, noticed something peculiar. Many of his patients claimed that after the long arduous trip, they actually felt better. Apparently the doc put two and two together and postulated that rigorous vibrations helped Parkinson’s patients.

Did to the fact that Dr Tass’s magic gloves are presently unobtainium, I figured that maybe this vibration plate that I had heard about in a different circle, could be a help. Apparently there are certified therapists who give training courses to their devotees. For less than $250 I decided to take a chance and pick up a mid level model on Amazon and I have been using it daily ever since.

    I hope this info helps!
