Short Bio | I was diagnosed in March 2009 after hearing Terry Gross on NPR interview Mr, Iverson, a journalist who had created a Frontline documentary entitled “My father, my brother and me” After hearing him tell Terry what his symptoms were, two days later I got a confirmation from my primary care physician and a neurologist. Eventually I started working with a Movement Disorder Specialist. I’ve been doing smorgasbord of meds once the sinemet was losing it’s efficacy. I am also on the injection Apokyn in addition to being on a trial basis using a pump to deliver the Apokyn to my brain. I finally went all in this past simmer and had DBS on my right side (left side of my brain.) Retired 6 years ago with my PD. Not how I planned my retirement but I try to make the most of it and become involved in some way to support others with PD. One way I do that is I facilitate a support group and have found it very rewarding. I’m single and live alone and my mornings are difficult so I have a caregiver who stops by daily to help me get started and check on me. |
