Oddly enough after many attempts to deal with my constipation I found that Curcumin supplements have worked for me. Go figure. But after taking them daily and continuing to eat plenty of cooked vegetables I have found that constipation is no longer an issue.

In 2014 I was hit by a large truck while in a crosswalk. Sustained a severe concussion. Over the next 4 years my PD symptoms emerged but it was only diagnosed three years ago. My neurologist believe that it is possible that the accident triggered my PD. But we will never know for sure. I have no family history of PD.

Thank you all for these postings about humming. A number of people have commented that I softly hum quite frequently. Like many others I was unaware but since then I have paid attention when I do. I was diagnosed with PD two years ago. There  is no known history of PD in my family yet I remember that my father began humming in an atonal way when he was in his 80’s. He had difficulty remembering some things and became very depressed and suicidal.  Perhaps he had other symptoms that he was able to hide as he was the sole caretaker for my mother after she had a major stroke. Now I remembered that he had chronic constipation too. He died suddenly of a bowel related problem.

OMG! It was brought to my attention by my physical therapist that I often hum. I was completely unaware. When I read this in the forum I was amazed that this could be related to my Parkinson’s! I will pay attention to what I am feeling when I begin to hum. Thank you…

I appreciate Mary Beth’s question. Since my diagnosis almost 2 years ago  I have become very discouraged about life. I have become withdrawn socially and am quite depressed. I used to be very social, accomplished and generally loving with family and friends. At first I thought it was due to my sensitivity to medications for PD.But as my dr tapered off the meds my PD symptoms returned in full force.  My emotions continue to be an issue.  Now I am at a loss as to the next step. This is further complicated by a head injury I had 5 years ago which may or may not be a factor. Not sure what to do next.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2021 although my symptoms had been progressing for at least 4 years. Originally I was put on Carbadopa Levadopa. Low dose 25/100. Side effects were primarily those of depression and extreme constipation. So my doctor prescribed Rytary. Long story short, I am now irritable beyond belief and anxious too. I feel as if I have to choose between my mind(better w/out meds) or my body (better with meds). I am at a loss as to what to do next.

Thanks Mary Beth. I am in therapy and find it helpful. But I want my joy back!
