I just got this book out of the library today. It’s called “How to Be Sick” by” Toni Bernhard. The subtitle is “A Buddhist-Inspired Guide for the Chronically Ill and Their Caregivers. My dad is reading “How to Wake Up; A Buddhist-Inspired Guide to Navigating Joy and Sorrow” also by the same author. He said it’s one of the best things he’s read in a long time.

I am interested in a device called SpeechVive. What it does is this: The SpeechVive device leverages an automatic brain response called the Lombard Effect. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lombard_effect
This brain response triggers louder speech volume as the ambient sounds around people increases. With this Parkinson’s speech device, you speak louder, slower, and more clearly without thinking about it. Here is a link to the website:

I am interested in the somnolence or drowsiness from the medications and how to fight it.

Somewhere on the web I found a research study that used GABA and Theanine in a ratio of 1000mg GABA to 200mg Theanine. I use 2 capsules of 500mg GABA by Swanson and 1 capsule of 200mg Theanine by Jarrow. I have been using this combination of supplements for close to a year and it works well for sleep. I take it about 1/2 hour before bedtime.

Hi, I take Mucuna Pruriens (which is what dopatropic is) in the evening after my regular last dose of Carbidopa-Levodopa in order to be able to still walk around. My neurologist doesn’t like me to do this but I feel desperate and need to be active in the evening.
I have found that there is a good deal of variation in the strength of Mucuna Pruriens and a brand that I can rely on is Barlowe’s Herbal Elixirs (Brown Indian) Extract 650mg. I take one capsule and it helps me for at least 4 hours.
I have tried Banyan brand Mucuna and it did nothing for me at all even when I doubled the dose, which I tried several times.

I wondered if the Parkinson’s disease could have anything to do with a gut surgery (where my ileum was removed)I had had which caused me to become deficient in vitamin B-12. I remember feeling exhausted most of the time and several years later I began having having PD symptoms. And unfortunately, my PD went undiagnosed for a couple of years.
