• Mouth Guard Use

I’m an 82 years old male recently diagnosed with PD (although there were symptoms dating back several years). I would describe one of my symptoms today as bruxism combined with slamming my mouth shut – often injuring my tongue. My wife reports that my REM sleep often includes acting out – frequently accompanied by aggressive movement and the teeth gnashing. A recent set of X-Rays by my dentist revealed several teeth needing root canal work plus several crowns needing replacement. Yes, drooling is an issue as well.

If you suffer from similar issues, how have you handled them? In particular, has a mouth guard proved helpful?

Yes, mouth guard helps tremendously. Also, ask ur doctor about Amantadine for dyskinesia,

Yes, I go to bed early without another C/L dose for the night and I find I am really clenching and grinding my teeth and jaws…before I go to sleep.

I have a night guard and thank goodness. Before I got this latest one, I was having a lot of work on my teeth. One tooth pulled because root canal and large filling didn’t hold. I like the softer chewy night guards not the hard ones. On my bottom teeth, not my top.

Thanks to the post below, I’m thinking it could be dyskinesia. Kate
