Brittany Dunnum is a soon-to-be speech therapist. Watching her grandfather battle Parkinson’s disease has shaped her.

Even after his diagnosis, she still had little grasp of what it meant. It wasn’t until the year after his passing (caused by complications of PD and suspected dementia) that she received more formal training about the disease.

Brittany sees pursuing speech-language pathology and specific treatment approaches for PD as a small way of honoring and paying tribute to her grandfather: “Love you, grandpa!”

Brittany, we are sure your grandfather would be so proud of who you’ve become!

Now back to our PD Community: if you are close to someone with Parkinson’s disease, how has this shaped you?
